Someone else's poem

Today, another poem. Someone else's. I've floundered for something of my own to write, here, but find nothing nada zip zero goose egg. (And it took 1.5 hrs to post *this*, thanks to lack of inspiration and flakey DSL connections. Grr. Grrr grrr grrr.)

You can read more about Jane Hirshfield here, or check out this interview.

Optimism

More and more I have come to admire resilience.
Not the simple resistance of a pillow, whose foam returns over and over to the same shape, but the sinuous tenacity of a tree: finding the light newly blocked on one side,
it turns in another.
A blind intelligence, true.
But out of such persistence arose turtles, rivers, mitochondria, figs--all this resinous, unretractable earth.
