Today, D. and I had a romantic outing. We went to the Contemporary Jewish Museum to see Stanley Kubrick:The Exhibition, a display of camera lenses, props, costumes, still pictures, scripts, notes, letters, and running clups for each of Kubrick's films, including those, like Napoleon, that he never made.
2001 was a strong influence for D., and no doubt helped spark his interest in science fiction and special effects. I just remember it being one of the many movies that impressed my father and dismayed or disturbed my mother, which meant Dad had me watch it when I was too young for it, either to "educate" me or bother Mom. Or both.
And while I admire Kubrick's eye and talent and discipline, I don't care for his focus on psychopathic behavior and on the worst of humanity. Which is probably what my father did like...
