Thanks to Josh for the link to Gas Guy. I've only read his latest post, but it was a very good read. The same message coming to me from another voice. The message that we are not our labels, and that it's sane to chose to love the job you have rather than find a job you love.
Partially as a result of reading that site, and partially because of the last few weeks of emerging from my private blog shell, I've now made this blog available to the general reading public. I've also updated the sidebar with new and renewed links. Don't all rush over and read at the same time, now.
The pre-school (as opposed to preschool) year is starting up, and all that comes with it: meeting with the teachers, making sure the kids have good backpacks and lunch boxes, prepping the classrooms so they're Waldorfly pastel in color, rallying the parental volunteers, stocking up on lots of cheap wine...
The girls, as young as they are, aren't yet pre-programmed to feel pre-school-year butterflies - that laying-out-the-new-clothes-the-night-before anxiety that still hits me (perhaps on their behalf) as August starts to fall away.
But we're trying to get to bed earlier than 9pm (take today, for example!) in anticipation of two weeks from now, when the harsh reality of being out the door with lunches made by 8:00 will hit anew.
And there's this other reason to get to bed earlier, for me. Starting tomorrow, my workday begins at 5am. It's a good thing, and something I wouldn't have changed if it wasn't too my advantage. The challenge will be to get to bed by 9pm myself, nightly, or face the sleep-deprivation consequences.
Lines from 5 years ago:
i'll make this quick
i don't have time to read long poems let alone write them
only i wanted to remind you that the world is rife
with things that poetry could never say
but must
