While the girls were at the Parents' Night Out function, D and I went out for sushi, shopped at Trader Joe's together, watched a couple of episodes of The Simpsons, then picked up the girls. Maybe not everyone's idea of a nice evening together, but we also talked, uninterrupted, and giggled when only two sips into our drinks I couldn't say "Frank Lloyd Wright" correctly.
Earlier today, S and I had this theological dialog, started with a comment she made completely out of the blue.
S: Mommy, Jesus didn't make the world. God made the world.
Me: God did make the world. Do you think Jesus is also part of God?
S: Yes.
Me: And what about us? Are we also part of God?
S: Yeah. Everyone's part of God. We're in God's head.
Me: [excited by the concept] Are we? Like, we're God's thoughts? Or we exist in the mind of God?
S: Well, our house is really one of those little bumps in God's mouth.
Me: Oh. Like the little bumps on the top of your tongue?
S: Yeah. And Kira's house [next door] is the bump next to us.
Me: Oh. And the whole world fits in God's head?
S: Yeah. And the whales fit too. Now that God is grown up.
Me: [taking advantage of the prophet] And who were God's mommy and daddy?
S: Huh. Let me think about that. Uh.... Moses. And...Mary. Mary and Moses.
She then launched into, "Mary and Moses sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g. First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage."
